It all goes from bad to worse for Dan as the man from the Leaning Tower starts leaning on him.

I’m always eager to read any of T A Williams’ books, whether they are his romance novels set in cities across Italy or this series of cozy mysteries featuring former detective Dan Armstrong and his adorable Labrador Oscar.

The cover for ‘Murder at the Leaning Tower’ is fabulous and I love the inclusion of Oscar at the forefront as he’s certainly a central character in these novels!

With his own very definite personality, an eye for the ladies and a nose that can sniff out food from the slightest whiff, he’s equally instrumental in helping Dan solve this latest murder.

There’s a strong focus on relationships in this one as Dan comes face to face with Virginia, his girlfriend Anna’s daughter, for the first time and I enjoyed how this was tackled and woven cleverly into the mystery plot.

The other characters invited to the villa have a myriad of different personalities and this certainly added to the intrigue as both Dan and the reader try to discover who might have had the motive to murder Jonathan Farmer.

There’s plenty of trademark humour throughout, the ‘bistecca alla Fiorentina’ comment being one of my favourites!

I also liked the twist on the usual delectable food descriptions as they definitely had more of a Gallic twist in this one owing to the French chef!

I think this was my favourite murder so far!

** Blog Tour ** Murder at the Matterhorn- T.A. Williams

I’m thrilled to be participating in what is the penultimate day of the blog tour for ‘Murder at the Matterhorn.’

An old friend in need…

Despite being retired from the police, Dan Armstrong is always on hand to help with solving a crime.

So, when he’s contacted by an old colleague in need of help, Dan readily agrees. The only problem Dan can see is the location – an isolated mountain-top campsite of UFO enthusiasts.

An unexplained death…

But these are no ordinary star watchers, and when Dan arrives one member of the group is already dead. Some of the group suspect alien abduction, but Dan is sure the killer is much closer to home.

An out of this world case?

Dan doesn’t believe in aliens, but faced with black hole of secrecy from the group of suspects, he and Oscar have their work cut out to catch the murderer…before they strike again.

It’s another case for Dan and Oscar to solve!

A gripping new murder mystery series by bestselling author T.A. Williams, perfect for fans of Lee Strauss and Beth Byers.

I’m always eager to read any new release from this author (a search of this blog will reveal reviews of numerous earlier titles) and this was no exception.

One of the things I love most about any T A Williams book, regardless of genre, is his ability to immerse you fully in the storyline and the location from the outset.

In this cozy crime mystery, the fifth in the series (although easily read as a stand-alone) and featuring former detective Dan Armstrong and his lovable Labrador Oscar, the action is set in the north of Italy where a murder has taken place during a ufologist convention in the mountains.

Despite the somewhat obscure alien theme, Williams expertly blends this naturally into the narrative. From Dan’s scepticism to the details of supposed sightings over the Matterhorn , the storyline is never overwhelmed by it, yet it lends a unique take on the murder and its suspects.

I think this is my favourite book of the series so far, perhaps because of its more unique setting and a part of Italy I am less familiar with. As always, the descriptions of the local dishes are tantalising and always make me want to try them for myself!

Oscar cannot help but steal the limelight in his own inimitable way and I especially loved the descriptions of Dan struggling to get him to sleep in his own bed, both in the camper-van and at the hotel.

I also particularly liked the character of Inspector Costey, from her hardened indifference at the outset on meeting Dan, to discovering not only her incredible work ethic but also her softer side as she got closer to the birth of her first child.

The great thing about this series is it keeps you second guessing about the possible motives and suspects. The twist at the end of this one was certainly unexpected!

A truly satisfying read.

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-
since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only ten years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing escapist romance is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels and I now also write cozy crime, but my first love has always been romance. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations and descriptions of food to make you drool.

Whenever there is a new release from this author, I’m always keen to get hold of a copy. Having read almost all of the ‘Dreaming of’ and ‘Escape to’ series as well as his more recent venture into cozy crime (earlier reviews can be found by typing T A Williams into the search bar), I was eager to read this latest escapist romance.

As always, the cover of any T A Williams book is a delightful insight into the novel itself and I was immediately drawn into the warmth of the Italian countryside which exudes from this one..

A master of romantic escapes, this is yet another triumph from the author. I loved the backstory of main character Alice and enjoyed watching her evolve and grow in confidence as the story progressed.

There are plenty of Williams’ trademarks; an adorable Labrador, wonderful descriptions of the landscape and exquisite descriptions of local food and drink delicacies that will make your mouth water.

I liked the fact this was set in a location in Italy that was unfamiliar to me and loved the descriptions of the old castle and the historical family feuds that still run deep.

A wonderful read to escape into and imagine yourself in Italy.

This is another resounding triumph from one of my favourite authors! (Search T A Williams to find previous reviews)

I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting Tuscany through the eyes of Dan Armstrong once more and, of course, his wonderful sidekick Oscar the Labrador who is simply adorable.

As with any T A Williams novel, the descriptions of the setting, the glorious food and wine of the region transport the reader to Italy and I often find myself yearning to take a return trip there to sample the delights in person.

I particularly liked the backstory to this one dealing with environmental issues and the differing views of the characters towards the local wolves which added a really different perspective to the crime.

There is plenty of humour peppered throughout which helps keeps the tone lighthearted and the variety of characters who potentially could be implicated in the murder help keep the reader guessing.

A hugely enjoyable read!

I’m so thrilled to have been able to dip back into another T A Williams romance!

This time, we are transported to the Italian Riviera and in the author’s trademark style, are treated to descriptions of the wonderful scenery and local food dishes in such tantalising detail, that it is possible to imagine yourself there.

Similarly, there is another adorable chocolate Labrador, in the form of the delightful Waldorf, to fall in love with.

I loved the music theme around which this book was centred and the way in which it cleverly inextricably linked the main characters. Whether it was the former rock stars yearning to reform the band, Ethan and Steph with their recording expertise or Robert and Steph’s love of playing classical pieces, the music helped to thread all of them together in a variety of ways.

There are some hard-hitting themes dealt with, such as loss, grief and drug abuse, but these are sensitively handled and help to develop the reader’s understanding of several of the characters.

It is almost a book of two halves; the first focusing more on the band and the second the budding relationship between Steph and Robert. What is immensely likeable is how, despite their current or previous fame and fortune and extravagant lifestyle, there is a real sense of genuine warmth as Steph is welcomed into the fold by Keith and his family.

As a reader, you cannot help but root for Steph and hope that positive things happen for her. I did find her internal dilemma over her growing attraction to Robert a little repetitive at times, but I can see why the author has chosen to use this as a means of conveying her inner turmoil.

Another resounding triumph from T A Williams and definitely worth a read!

Regular readers of this blog will know I’m a huge fan of this author’s work and have regularly reviewed his previous ‘Dreaming of…’ and ‘Escape to Tuscany’ series.

I was also privileged to be part of the blog tour for ‘Murder in Tuscany’; the first book in this cozy mystery series.

Despite the shift in genre, there is still plenty of trademark T A Williams to be found in this mystery series. An easy, but thoroughly engaging read from the outset, in ‘Murder in Chianti, we are once again reacquainted with Dan and his trusty Labrador Oscar as they find themselves embroiled in helping to solve another local murder.

The relaxed writing style allows Williams to inject plenty of dry humour into the storyline and I often found myself chuckling at some of Dan’s observations as he narrates in the first person. Oscar, as always is delightful! ( A T A Williams novel is never complete without a dog who is the star of the show!)

The mystery element maintains a good pace with many characters leaving themselves open as suspects and with enough red herrings to keep the reader guessing until the end.

And, as always, the description of Chianti makes me yearn to revisit!

Another triumph and most definitely recommended!

Readers of this blog will know I’m a huge fan of T A Williams’ work and a search of his name here will offer plenty of reviews of his previous bestselling romances set in Italy.

This novel is a departure from the norm to some extent as he forays into the world of cosy crime.

That said, there is an abundance of typical features to be found within this new genre and fans will be delighted that the trademark Labrador is still very much present; in this case, it is Oscar who resides over proceedings!

The author always creates a vivid picture of the setting in the reader’s mind and the villa Volpone, set high in the Tuscan hills is no exception. Coupled with the usual descriptions of the delectable food and drink on offer, you can’t help but imagine yourself there, even amidst the crime that has taken place.

I found this just as easy a read as the author’s previous novels and felt a real empathy for the main character of Dan.

I’m already eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!

Add in a touch of romance and the trademark Labrador with his infectious character and you have the perfect summer read!

In this tale, it’s central character Louise who is charmed by mysterious local Vito, although both are carrying baggage from previous relationships which threatens to prevent the undeniable spark between them from developing further.

I’m always thrilled whenever T A Williams releases a book and this one is just as enticing as the others!

Set on the Italian island of Elba, this is the third standalone story in the ‘Escape to Tuscany’ series. Having visited Elba, this was a delightful way to revisit the island and escape to the sunshine but, even if it’s somewhere new to you as a reader, you’ll certainly be drawn into the descriptions of its’ beauty as you turn each page.

Central character Anna finds herself torn between rugged windsurfer Marco and childhood friend Toby, who plans to visit during her stay. Both men are vastly different, drawing out the two sides of her personality, ‘Naughty Anna’ and ‘Sensible Anna’ as she wrestles with her conscience to determine which man deserves her heart.

Yet perhaps the sweetest relationship is the one she develops with elderly Jack who shares her love of geology and has a secret of his own that he has kept hidden for years. Labradors always play a key part in any T A Williams novel and adorable George is no exception!

A perfect summer romance!
