Review-

‘Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive’. Sir Walter Scott’s quote certainly rings true in this tale of secrets, lies and deceit.

There are some possible trigger warnings with depression, baby loss, infertility and self-harm all key themes.

This is a tale full of intrigue from the outset and you definitely find yourself trying to second guess what’s going on as elements are gradually revealed.

There are lots of initial hints of earlier trauma which has clearly impacted on the lives of both Nicole and Deena. It’s hard to find any of the characters likeable, with the exception of Ed, but this serves to make the plot more compelling and there are plenty of unexpected twists and turns along the way.

Another cleverly written psychological thriller from Amanda Reynolds.

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

** Blog Tour ** The Screenwriter- Amanda Reynolds

I’m delighted to be one of today’s stops on the blog tour for ‘The Screenwriter.’

Every screenwriter knows the best stories come from the truth…

But the truth can be terrifying

Marnie thought she’d left behind her days of writing ‘celebrity’ tell-all memoirs, but when her big break as a screenwriter turns to dust she’s forced to take another ghost writing job.

Except this time it’s for someone who is actually famous. Or rather, infamous. Blythe Hopper. A reclusive former Hollywood star who recently murdered her screenwriter husband.

And Marnie has her own reasons for wanting to meet Blythe, not least because of an email she received from Blythe’s husband, sent two days after he was shot dead.

But Marnie soon learns Blythe is not a woman to be messed with.

Dark secrets lurk at the Hoppers’ palatial London home – secrets long buried, which Marnie is determined to unearth. At any price.

Because this isn’t just about Blythe’s past.

It’s about Marnie’s too.

Review-

I loved the synopsis of this book and it was certainly filled with intrigue from the start.

It began as something of a slow burner, with the opening chapters dedicated mainly to Marnie’s character. It was interesting to delve into her backstory and how this might have influenced some of her present day behaviour.

Blythe was a fascinating character! I liked how on initially meeting Marnie, it was hard to determine how much of her was genuine and how much she was still acting a role.

There are plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep the reader guessing with several shocks thrown in for good measure!

A hugely suspenseful read.

** Blog Tour ** The Assistant- Amanda Reynolds

I’m really pleased to be one of today’s stops on the blog tour for ‘The Assistant.’

I know many things about Larissa.

I know what she eats, which must-have brands she applies to her face, and the price of each carefully selected ‘piece’ in her multi-million-pound home in Belgravia.

Because Ris, as she is known to her many followers, likes to share. And now I’m here, in her home, watching her every move.

Entrusted with her secrets and running her diary from the bijou basement flat, I’m on hand to fulfil Ris’ every need. Her right-hand woman.

But what she doesn’t know is why I’m really here.

I’ve put a lot on the line to get this job, and now my plan can begin.

I’ve waited long enough.

Review-

The synopsis on this one had my interest piqued from the outset and there was enough suspense within the writing to keep me second guessing as to Gail’s motives.

The twist to this one is undoubtedly in the format. Written as a series of transcribed interviews, email exchanges and diary entries, the reader is able to gradually build up ideas about the central characters, whilst the author is able to carefully reveal twists and turns along the way.

In this current age of social media frenzy and the ever-increasing number of ‘influencers’, choosing this writing style fits perfectly and is relatable to today’s lifestyles. I also liked the stark contrast between Ris and Gail’s lives, despite the circumstances that see them thrown together.

It’s a slow burn of a read and it takes a few ‘chapters’ to work out who is narrating and who is who, but once you overcome this, it’s easy to follow.

An intriguing read and a novel concept!
