** Blog Tour ** The Trail- M A Hunter

I’m thrilled to be one of today’s stops on the penultimate day of the blog tour for ‘The Trail.’

Sometimes it’s best to let the past stay buried…

Thirty years ago, Jess’s mother, Nora, disappeared while on a charity hike in the US. The devastating loss has afflicted Jess well into her adult life and even inspired her decision to become an investigative journalist.

So when Jess receives an anonymous tip telling her that remains have been recovered in the spot her mother disappeared, she wastes no time in jumping on a plane.

They say the Appalachian Mountains have secrets, but as she begins to ask around, she learns that the locals do too. But no matter how much they lie, she is determined to find the truth – even if it will irrevocably change her future.

Someone wants to keep the past buried. And they will stop at nothing to keep Jess as quiet as the tranquil mountain trail itself…

Review

I was gripped by this one from the outset.

Told in a dual timeline from the current day perspective of Jess and thirty years previously through the eyes of her mum Nora, this is a tense crime thriller that mixes adventure, intrigue, the occult and folklore to create a compelling read.

When you find yourself constantly wanting to read ‘just one more chapter’, you know you’ve stumbled upon a good one.

I really liked the links between the past and the present with Bruce’s involvement in Jess’ life and his decision to follow her out to America.

As the narrative progressed and further possible clues and outcomes were revealed, I found myself second-guessing what could have happened to Nora which added to the intrigue of the plot.

The pace is in keeping with the tension within the storyline and there’s an abundance of characters who are either endearing or abhorrent in equal measure.

A real page turner!

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.
